Meet the Head Foxes

Gate City Provisions, Eatery and Market is the creation of Beth Kizhnerman, the former owner of Greensboro’s iconic Smith Street Diner, and her business partner, Jerry Kizhnerman. This latest venture entered the thriving Greensboro restaurant scene in the Spring of 2022.

As local culinary leaders since 1999, Beth and Jerry both know good, scratch-made food.

Meet Beth

Beth has been an active member of the Greensboro culinary community since the 1980s. Her first foray into the local restaurant scene started at Southern Lights Bistro and South by Southwest. Then, she opened Jerry’s Pizza in Union Cross, Bistro Sofia and Smith Street Diner with her former husband and business partner, Jerry Kizhnerman.

As Bistro Sofia continued to thrive, Jerry opened Smith Street Diner in 2006. Eventually, Beth decided to close Bistro Sofia and take over ownership and operations of Smith Street Diner in 2010. Now, Beth is thrilled to put fan-favorite dishes back on local plates while introducing new classics to the community. More than just a place to eat lunch, Gate City Provisions is a gathering place where everyone is welcome.

Meet Jerry

Jerry Kizhnerman is a broadly experienced and diversely talented food service professional. His visionary and concept-design talent have culminated in menu development, project management, staff development, procurement, and vendor negotiations for restaurants throughout the Triad, including the iconic Smith Street Diner. He’s excited to bring a unique, new concept to the Greensboro restaurant scene.

Iconic Restaurant Ventures

Beth and Jerry were behind some of the most beloved dining spots in the Triad, including Smith Street Diner, Bistro Sofia, and Jerry’s Pizza. Beth has also worked as a chef at Southern Lights Bistro and South by Southwest.

A beacon in the Greensboro foodie community, Smith Street Diner was rated as one of the Top 10 Breakfasts in North Carolina. It was a favorite among locals and travelers alike. Food Network listed Smith Street Diner as the best diner in North Carolina in its December 2019 article, “50 Diners Across the Country.” Smith Street Diner was also a favorite with Southern Living Magazine, rated the best diner in North Carolina.

What’s on the Menu?
